This has truly been one of our biggest heartbreaks. Lucy had the style and elegance of her dam Emma with the exceptionally beautiful mammary of her granddam, Hailey. She freshened at the age of 2, and we KNEW we had something special. Shortly after her first fair, we noticed lumps in her udder. We tried everything we knew to treat her with, though no samples came back positive for mastitas. We aggressively treated her as we dried her up and hoped for the best. As her 2nd fresheneing came, we were thrilled that her mammary was soft, ppliable and no notice of the mastitas that had plagued her the previous year. But withing in a month, the hard lumps came back, We consulted a few vets about a more aggressive treatment and again dried her off. As she freshened this last time in 2008, we knew, that we had failed again. And the promise of that mammary and the beautiful body that usually comes to our girls as they mature were dashed.
